ED-RED 2024-2025 Legislative Initiatives

Our legislative initiatives are set by our Executive Board and team each year. The initiatives reflect the work being done in our districts and by our Working and Advocacy Committees. This year we have determined the following three initiatives to be worked on during this legislative session with our local ED-RED Legislators.

In addition to these three initiatives, ED-RED will continue to prioritize funding for New Arrivals and Low-Income Students, and Transportation and Absenteeism.

Improve Dual Credit Quality Act

Improving the Dual Credit Act in an effort to better serve and prepare our K-12 students. ED-RED is working this initiative in partnership with LEND, SCOPE, IHSDO, and LUDA.

Deprioritizing School Polling Places

Schools serving as polling sites experience a disruption in education, increased cost for additional hired security, and exposing themselves, students, and staff to unchecked outsiders. For these reasons and others, ED-RED is working on an initiative to consider alternative polling sites when available.

Preserving the State Paid Leave Law

This initiative looks into upholding State law as it relates to Paid Leave. Specifically, honoring the intention of the legislation and not applying to school districts.
